OCD concerns and treatment fit in the Five Towns
An unwanted thought appears, doubt grows, and you feel driven to check, repeat, review, or ask for reassurance. The relief lasts briefly, then the same question returns. When this cycle takes over your time or relationships, it is worth discussing with a qualified clinician.
Dr. Benson Fox, PsyD, is a Licensed Psychologist in Cedarhurst, serving Lawrence, Woodmere, Hewlett, Inwood, and nearby Long Island communities. Telehealth is available throughout New York.
Understanding obsessions and compulsions
OCD can involve intrusive, unwanted thoughts and repetitive actions or mental rituals. It is more than liking order or double-checking occasionally. The distress, time involved, and effects on daily life help clarify what care is needed.
Ask about the treatment approach
Exposure and response prevention, or ERP, is a form of cognitive behavioral therapy with evidence for OCD. It involves gradually facing triggers while learning to resist the usual compulsive response. Treatment is planned with a qualified clinician around the person’s needs.
Dr. Fox’s practice uses a psychodynamic perspective. During a consultation, discuss whether this work fits your concerns or whether an ERP-focused clinician, medication consultation, or another service would better match your needs. This page does not represent the practice as a dedicated ERP program.
Religious concerns deserve careful understanding
For frum and Orthodox Jewish clients, unwanted religious or moral doubts can be difficult to describe. Discuss how distress and repetitive rituals affect life while respecting observance. When religious guidance is relevant, questions of halacha belong with your rav or posek; any collaboration is discussed with you.
