Questions before starting therapy

Clear answers about appointments, costs, the Five Towns office, and working with Dr. Benson Fox.

Does Dr. Fox accept insurance?

Yes. Dr. Fox accepts insurance. Check your specific plan through Headway to see network status and estimated cost. Coverage depends on your plan and the service; couples and family appointments may have different coverage from individual therapy.

What are the private-pay fees?

Individual sessions are $250 and couples sessions are $300. Ask for a family-session quote before booking. If you are paying without insurance, you can request a written Good Faith Estimate of expected charges.

Is there a free consultation?

Yes. Dr. Fox offers a free 15-minute consultation. It is a chance to ask questions about your concerns, the approach, and practical arrangements. Request a consultation using the contact form or call (516) 880-2841.

Can I book online?

Yes. You can check appointment options through Headway or Zocdoc. Use the practice form if you prefer to speak with Dr. Fox first or need help arranging a time.

Where is the office?

The Cedarhurst office is at 29 Weyant Drive, Cedarhurst, NY. It serves the Five Towns—Cedarhurst, Lawrence, Woodmere, Hewlett, and Inwood—and nearby Long Island communities. View the map and directions.

Is telehealth available?

Yes. Telehealth is available for clients located in New York during the session. Meet from a private space with a reliable connection. We discuss whether remote sessions fit your needs.

Are evening or weekend appointments available?

The practice works by appointment and offers evening and weekend options. Check online appointment times or include your preferred days and times in your request.

What concerns can I bring to therapy?

You can ask about anxiety, depression, painful experiences, relationship conflict, men’s concerns, and recurring emotional or interpersonal patterns. For OCD, ask specifically about treatment fit and whether an ERP-focused referral would be appropriate. You do not need a diagnosis before making an inquiry.

What happens in the first session?

We talk about what brought you in, relevant background, and what you hope will change. Dr. Fox explains the approach and practical arrangements. You can ask questions and decide whether continuing feels useful; you do not have to tell your whole story immediately.

What happens in the first couples session?

Each partner has room to describe the relationship, recurring conflicts, and hopes for therapy. Together, we identify the pattern you want to change and discuss participation, privacy, and shared goals. We also assess whether joint sessions are appropriate for your circumstances.

How does psychodynamic therapy help?

Psychodynamic therapy looks at how earlier experiences, unspoken feelings, and relationship patterns affect present choices. We connect that understanding with current concerns, such as responding to worry, setting a boundary, or handling conflict. Read the approach guide.

Can therapy respect Orthodox Jewish commitments?

Yes. Therapy can make room for Torah observance, emunah, tznius, marriage, and family commitments. Religious guidance remains with your rav or posek. Collaboration is discussed with you and requires your permission. Read about faith and culture.

Are secular and non-Jewish clients welcome?

Yes. People of every faith and background are welcome. Your own values and goals guide the work.

How will we know whether therapy is helping?

We agree on goals and return to them. Progress may include fewer arguments, less avoidance, clearer boundaries, greater emotional understanding, or more ability to handle uncertainty. Tell Dr. Fox when something is not helping so the work can be adjusted.

How is privacy handled in a close community?

Confidentiality and its legal limits are explained during intake. You can discuss shared-community concerns, public encounters, and whether anyone else should be involved. Use website messages for contact details and scheduling; share clinical information during private intake.
