Couples therapy and marriage counseling in the Five Towns
The argument starts with one issue and ends in the same place: one of you feels unheard, the other feels criticized, and both feel further apart. Couples therapy helps you slow down that pattern and understand what each partner is trying to say.
Dr. Benson Fox, PsyD, offers couples therapy in Cedarhurst, serving Lawrence, Woodmere, Hewlett, Inwood, and nearby Long Island communities. Telehealth is available for couples located in New York.
Work on the cycle between you
Sessions focus on recurring conflict, communication, trust, and connection. We examine what happens in a difficult moment: the feelings underneath each response, the assumptions each partner makes, and how attempts to protect yourself can keep the cycle going.
Goals can include listening without immediately defending, discussing needs more clearly, repairing after an argument, and facing decisions together. We agree on what you want to change and review progress in terms that matter to your relationship.
What happens in the first couples session?
Each partner has room to describe the relationship, what brings you in, and what you hope will feel different. We identify shared goals and explain participation and privacy arrangements. We also assess whether joint sessions are appropriate for your circumstances.
Marriage, faith, and family commitments
For frum and Orthodox Jewish couples, therapy can make room for Torah observance, tznius, family expectations, and religious commitments. Your experience is understood without assuming that every marriage has the same concerns. Religious guidance remains with your rav or posek. People of every faith and background are welcome.
